Good morning,
I've been working on getting my PB published for a long while. My author hero, mentor, the late great, WD Myers gave me feedback and validation that I had a great manuscript, but warned that the industry can be biased (I still have the emails from him). Once had the attention of an agent from Full Circle Literary Agency, she gave me lots of feedback and validation, however, I could never meet her requirements, so we stopped communicating.  Last year, my PB manuscript won 2nd place in the Southern Breeze's regional contest.  So I figure it may be time to self-publish. I'm looking for an illustrator.  Can I openly contact the illustrators that are members of SCBWI?  How do I do that?

Having your post in the work for hire area is a good start. You might want to add more details about the work itself and what you're looking for in style as well as scope.

I don't know if industry biases are the reason you haven't been picked up. Sometimes it really just isn't the right person at the right time. It's very discouraging out there. But self publishing is a viable option, especially if you have a following or are good at marketing.

You can look up artists on the SCBWI site and check out their websites or social media to see if they are open to working with someone self publishing. Here's the Illustrator Gallery:

Good luck.

Robert, congratulations! You could try for a different agent. Be sure to mention your recent win in your cover letter.
