In 2003, Verla Kay started this forum under the name "Verla Kay's Blueboard," usually called just "The Blueboard." About 10 years later, SCBWI bought the forum from Verla and the name became "SCBWI's Blueboard." Then, in 2023, after SCBWI did a major revamp of its website that included a separation of SCBWI's and the forum's databases, the name became "SCBWI's Discussion Boards." It is because of this history that you will sometimes see the term "Blueboard" used in posts. We are also sometimes informally called "the message board(s)."

Though SCBWI owns the Discussion Boards, anyone with a serious interest in children's literature may register to join. SCBWI members are guaranteed that their registration will be accepted. Non-members of SCBWI are accepted when they pass a verification process that assures they are not bots, spammers or trolls. Thank you for this! You may get a giggle from a fond memory: years ago, my mother, Frances Wilbur, was also an SCBWI member and was in Eve Bunting's "Lunch Bunch" critique group in Pasadena, CA. They used to chuckle about how to say "SCBWI," and the consensus was to say, "Skibwee"! Thank you for keeping the torch burning!

Ah, Tori, how wonderful your mother was part of the Lunch Bunch. Thanks so much for sharing that link. You must make your mother so very proud!

Ditto to what Vijaya said. I really enjoyed reading about Lunch Bunch. And it's so special that you and your mom are both authors.

Tori

Thank you, Vijaya and Ev! I got to meet Eve Bunting at a conference once and introduced myself hesitantly as Frances's daughter, unsure she would remember my mother (after all, my mother wrote fiction :lol4 ), but, thankfully, she was delighted to make the connection and shared a few snippets. What a gracious lady!
